In order to work on this assignment click on ‘Baby webquest’ in the upper left hand corner.  You will need to enter the password to get started.  If you forgot the password, ask for it in class.  It is NOT a valid excuse for not completing the assignment.  Also, if you misplaced any of the worksheets, you will have access to them once you get started.  Remember this assignment is worth 125 points and is due on Tuesday, December 8th!  Do a good job and have fun!

It’s hard to believe the last 3 weeks of the semester are here already!  There are still 2 big projects due before the semester.  The ‘Oops, I’m not ready’ assignment is due next Tuesday 12/8 and the STI pamphlet is due Friday 12/11 – there will be no late assignments accepted and late work passes may NOT be used for the assignment.  Students will receive more information on the STI assignment on Friday this week.  The study guide for the final exam will be handed out next week.

Hello Parents/Guardians,

Your student has the opportunity to complete some extra credit assignments over the Thanksgiving break.  The movie assignments focus on the topics we just covered and are currently covering in class.  These assignments are due on Tuesday, Dec 1st and may not be used with a late work pass.  Students have the option of watching a movie, writing, or both.  The maximum amount of points a student can earn is 150 points.  Check it out below:

  • Movie (75 points): 28 Days  – 2000 American Drama starring Sandra Bullock

Students need to watch the movie and thoroughly answer all questions on their own paper in complete sentences.

  • Movie (75 points): Gracie’s Choice – 2004 television movie that premiered on Lifetime starring Kristen Bell and Anne Heche

Students need to watch the movie and thoroughly answer all questions on their own paper in complete sentences.

  • Writing (30 points): Complete a DIRT assignment – follow all directions. Basically students are locating an article off the internet, reading the article, and writing a summary and reaction (1 page) on the article.  The article can be on anything that is related to health.  The big thing here is that students need to turn in the entire article they use along with their written work.  If they choose to use the internet, the article needs to be printed and attached to the written work.

I hope students take advantage of this opportunity!  In case you haven’t seen it, students received their progress reports yesterday 11/19.  Let me know if you have any questions or comments.

This is another BUSY week in Health class!  For starters, chapter 23 homework is due on Tuesday.  On Thursday, Bindercheck # 5 is taking place and the tobacco advertisement project is due (100 pts)!  The drug classification matrix must also be complete and in your binder BEFORE your binder gets graded.  Then, be ready for the substance abuse exam by preparing your 3×5 notecard!

Hey Parents,

Your student was given a letter to inform you on the upcoming comprehensive sexual health unit.  The topics of the unit include:

  • Anatomy and physiology of the reproductive systems
  • Pregnancy and Childbirth
  • Contraception
  • Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), including HIV/AIDS prevention
  • Decision Making

The primary content for this unit is provided in a Health textbook (Glencoe’s Human Sexuality) approved by the State of California and Natomas Unified School District.  You are welcome to preview the book in the Natomas High School library.  CA law (SB 71) states that all students participate in Comprehensive Sexual Health education unless a parent/guardian voluntarily removes their student from the instruction.

He/She will be given alternative assignments to be completed in the library or another classroom.  A parent or guardian of a pupil has the right to request in writing that his/her student not receive the comprehensive sexual health education and STI/HIV/AIDS prevention education. If you do not want your student to participate in comprehensive sexual health education through health class, you MUST notify your student’s health teacher.  You can sign and return the letter, email or call me if you do not want your student to participate.

If I don’t hear from you, I will assume your student has your permission to participate in the Family Life unit (comprehensive sexual health education).

Unfortunately the current financial crisis has hit the classroom.  All classes will receive no funding for class supplies.  While I still have some supplies built up from previous years, the biggest need is paper.  If you can help supply any of the following materials to health class, your student will receive extra credit!   The due date for this opportunity is Friday, November 6th.

This is what is needed:

colored (preferably pastel colors) = 50pts

Sharpies (assorted colors)

4 sharpies = 25pts

Ink cartridge – Hp PSC 750

Black = 75pts

Color =100pts

*No student shall exceed 120 pts. and please leave materials in original packaging.

The project for this unit is due next week on Tuesday, October 20th.  You will be designing a front page newspaper of yourself so have fun with it.  I love seeing all the creativity in these projects!   If you need to see examples, check the examples in class.  If you need another copy of the directions, you will find a link under “Class Handouts” – don’t forget to keep everything on one page!!
